AiRRUS Delivers

In the short span of three years AiRRUS has secured its' position within the tackle industry as a leader in innovation and technology by winning ICAST's "Best of Show" award in the rod category, every year since it entered the tackle industry in july of 2002.

Spectra RodAiRRUS rods, then known as Sirrus, made its entry into the tackle industry at the 2002 ICAST show in Las Vegas. It was at ICAST that we initially showcased and introduced a totally new and innovative rod technology to the tackle industry. We entered rods built with this technology in ICAST's "New Products Showcase" in order to obtain feedback from buyers and to see how well this new technology would be accepted. I had no idea, at the time, that this was a rod technology destine to change the rod industry, much as the introduction of graphite did in the 70's. We received further confirmation of the value of our rod technology in April of 2003 when "Outdoor Life" presented us with their prestigious "Editor's Choice" award for having the best baitcasting rod in their 2003 Gear Test.

Earlier in 2003 I decided that I would have a new series of rods ready for the ICAST showcase. It would be a series with a limited number of rod models and that would take the Co-Matrix technology to the next level. This was accomplished with the development of the SPECTRA AFT series and was as planned introduced at ICAST, in the 2003 "New Products Showcase". The introduction of the SPECTRA series was more than juat a re-run of the previous years technology with just a color change. I showcased the versatility of our technology with the introduction of multiple fiber types into the rod blank, in particular, the use of SPECTRA fiber. SPECTRA is the same fiber that is used as alternative fiber in body armor. SPECTRA is high in strength, light in weight, with super elongation, making it a marvelous companion fiber to graphite for rod blanks. AiRRUS received the ultimate Anniversary present when the SPECTRA series took "Best of Show" in the rod category at ICAST 2003. This award was some unexpected, due to the fact that no rod manufacturer, in the history of ICAST had ever won "Best of Show" in the rod category in consecutive years.

AiRRUS RodsIn the fall of 2003 Sirrus Rods became AiRRUS Rods, as a result of a trademark dispute with Shakespeare. With the name change under my belt and 2003 coming to a close, I began thinking about what I might come up with as an encore at ICAST 2004. I decided to stress innovation through process technology. This resulted in the development of the TRADITION series in which the grip and rod blank are one continuous unit. The original TRADITION was shown at ICAST 2004 as a fly rod/spinning rod combo in which the fly rod reel seat screws up inside the rod grip when the rod is used as a spinning rod. TRADITION ultimately gave AiRRUS its third "Best of Show" in the rod category award in as many years and has really raised the bar for the competition.

Most recently AiRRUS has been recognized by Field and Stream magazine, who in their Dec/Jan issue selected the AiRRUS TRADITION as the number one rod for 2004, over such heavy hitters as St. Croix, Diawa, G.Loomis and Shimano.

AiRRUS is extremely proud of its achievements, because we know that these awards are given based on criteria which recognizes that AiRRUS affords its' customers with, to coin a phrase, "Not more than they need, just more than they expect." As future rods evolve from AiRRUS you can be assured that everything possible will be done to keep AiRRUS rods on the cutting edge of the latest technology, which will translate into better products for you our customers.
